The first philosopher of the Arabs, tutor to the Abbasid prince Ahmad ibn al-Mu'tasim, and impresario of a translation circle that put Greek metaphysics into Arabic. He corrected the Arabic Plotinus paraphrase for his student; the result carried Aristotle's name and Neoplatonism's content.
