The leading astronomer of Umayyad Cordoba, from Madrid when Madrid was a frontier town. Around 1000 he and his pupil Ibn al-Saffar recomputed al-Khwarizmi's Baghdad tables for the meridian of Cordoba and the Islamic calendar, the version Europe would later receive.
